Grief and Joy
Chamber Music from 18th Century Germany and France Featuring Two Violas da Gamba
The viola da gamba has a delicate and subtle sound that "can imitate the human voice in all its modulations, even in its most intimate nuances: that of grief and joy" (Harmonie Universelle, 1636). This program features music for the rich combination of two violas da gamba with recorder and harpsichord performing works by Telemann, Kuhnel, Hasse, Couperin, and Sainte-Colombe. La Bernardinia's guest for this concert is gambist, Rebecca Humphrey.
